Lowry

He used to enter the bedroom to unwind.
An enigmatic painting by Lowry,
Two large Chinese scrolls,
A bold Indian engraving,
Windows over a garden of delights.
Peace of mind was always assured.

But now, by the bed, stands a portrait of a smiling face.
Whenever he encounters her eyes, his heartbeat rushes as a runaway train.
His soul attempts to cope with the entire continent between them.

He saw it happening in other people's lives.
Never involved in a quest for rapture,
He passed by them with derision and apprehension.

Believing in the generosity of the future,
Anticipating a time allowing them to share space and love,
Hope has become his loyal companion.
